Lexington Women's Health

Lexington Women's Health offers a state of the art ultrasound department. Our ultrasonographers are registered and experienced in all aspects of obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound.

Ultrasound is routinely performed to establish a due date in early pregnancy and to evaluate your baby's anatomic development at 20 week's gestation. Our department is accredited with the National American Institute in Medicine.

Gender Scans

We offer elective gender scans at 16 weeks gestation or beyond. Session includes four images of your baby and gender determination for only $75.00 or $100.00 for twins. Insurance does not cover these scans.

  1. What is a 3D/4D Ultrasound?

Prenatal 3D Ultrasound is a new technology that allows you to see images and video of your unborn baby. With 3D Ultrasound, you can see features of the baby before birth and can watch your baby move.

  2. What is the difference between 2D and 3D/4D Ultrasound?

2D images only create still images and are black and white. With 3D technology you are able to see the fetal anatomy and facial structures in color. 4D is simply 3D Ultrasound in live motion, where you can watch your baby move.

  3. Do I need to have a diagnostic ultrasound performed before my 3D/4D session?

Yes, Lexington Women's Health requires that all patients have a normal diagnostic medical ultrasound, fetal survey, before attending your 3D/4D Ultrasound session.

  4. Is it safe?

Ultrasound has been studied for over 35 years and has not been shown to cause any harm to the mother or fetus.

  5. What is the best time to have a 3D/4D ultrasound session?

We offer 3D/4D ultrasounds between 25 and 32 weeks gestation. This is the time that your baby's facial features are well developed and you can see facial expressions.

  6. Will I always get a perfect picture of my baby?

There are many things that factor the quality of image we can obtain. Some of these factors are as follows: fetal position, amount of amniotic fluid around the baby, placental location.

  7. Can I bring family members to the session?

Lexington Women's Health welcomes family, children and friends. We will provide seating for guests as they watch on our flat screen monitor.

3D and 4D Fetal Photography

Seeing your baby through the technology of ultrasound can be a joyful experience. At Lexington Women's Health, we believe that ultrasound can promote early bonding which can be a powerful force to carry you through the last weeks of a pregnancy and the early weeks of the newborn period.

How is this different?

Most insurance carriers will cover one routine prenatal ultrasound to screen for birth defects. Unless a problem is suspected, additional ultrasounds are usually not covered. The best time to screen for birth defects is in the mid 2nd trimester. In addition, the technologist is focused on a highly complex exam of your baby and a physician reviews each image carefully.

Fetal photography sessions allow us to spend some time to enjoy the simple pleasure of viewing your baby's features. You also have the option of bringing family members with you to the photography session. The session will be recorded on a DVD for your later enjoyment. This exam is not reviewed by a physician and is not intended in any way to detect abnormalities of the baby, placenta, cervix, or fluid levels.

When should I schedule?

Fetal photography sessions are scheduled between 28 and 32 weeks gestation.

What should I expect?

Your fetal photography session will include 20 minutes of ultrasound recording. Please understand that not every baby will be in a position to obtain a good view of the face. We cannot guarantee images of the face, gender, or any other specific body part on fetal photography sessions.

How much does it cost?

Fetal photography sessions are $180 payable upon scheduling. For a refund, 24 hours cancellation notice is required. Please be on time as a late arrival will shorten your session in the ultrasound suite. Please note that we cannot provide refunds due to your baby's position or inability to obtain the views you would like to see as this is out of our control. We will provide the DVD used to record your session.
